We invite all who are interested in improving the construction industry to submit abstracts for consideration as oral or poster presentations. Papers should be based on research, innovation and/or best practices, and should focus on one of the two themes of the Conference:
Theme 1: Ageing of the Construction Workforce
Life expectancy of employees in the construction industry is increasing in many nations and will most likely continue to do so. Papers should focus on:
- How has ageing affected construction in your country?
- What are the effects of ageing on employers, workers or social insurance systems?
- Does ageing only have an effect on the elderly?
- What can we do to accommodate all workers so they can stay productive longer?
- Do older workers have more or less injuries and illnesses than younger workers?
- Do older workers add value to construction or are they mainly liabilities?
- Should ageing get special considerations in risk assessment?

Theme 2: Globalisation in Construction
globalisation in construction is now a reality which is producing benefits and problems. Papers should focus on:
- Is migrant labor a major issue in your country? What are the main challenges concerning occupational safety and health?
- Does globalisation produce new opportunities for employers and employees from emerging economies?
- How does globalisation affect the transfer of best construction practices, including those that improve occupational safety and health?
- What are the impacts on fair competition, and the progress that has been made in occupational safety and health?
- How do we protect national labour standards from the pressures of globalisation?
- What are the main measures to reduce the negative impact of globalisation on occupational safety and health in the construction industry?
- Should globalisation need special considerations in risk assessment?
- Are the current approaches to international standardisation on Occupational Safety and health- management systems in construction adequate?

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT:
Only electronic abstracts sent to construction.issa@cramif.cnamts.fr will be accepted.
All abstracts must be written in English (400 words).
In addition, they can also be written in one of the other official languages of the Symposium (German, French, Spanish, Dutch).
Final due date for submissions: 28 FEBRUARY 2009
The selection will be made by the Scientific Committee of the ISSA Construction Section. |
